About Milieu
Milieu is built by a child and adolescent psychiatrist who got tired of writing the same letters from scratch. It exists for the paperwork that sits between a kid and the care they need: appeals when an insurer says no, letters that get a school to act, and the consent rules that change at every state line.
What is here
7 letter generators and consent-law reference pages for 15 states. The generators ask structured questions and write the letter in your browser as you answer: appeals for denied levels of care, medications, and testing, and school letters for 504 and IEP requests, return to school, school avoidance, and homebound instruction. The consent pages answer the questions that come up in the first ten minutes of a visit: who can consent, what a parent can see, what a custody order changes, and what the clinician must do when a minor discloses risk.
How the letters are made
Each generator is a template that branches on the choices you make. The prose is written to read as a clinician wrote it, and the arguments follow the practice parameters and the regulations that payers and schools actually answer to, cited by name and linked to the source. Proprietary criteria such as InterQual and MCG are referred to by name and never reproduced.
Every letter is a draft. It leaves marked blanks for identifiers and for the clinical detail only you have, and it is yours to read, fix, and sign. The judgment stays with the licensed clinician.
How the reference pages are made
Each state page is written from the statutes it cites, summarized in plain language, and links to the official text so you can read the source yourself. The pages are reviewed against that text before they are published and periodically afterwards. They are a reference for clinicians, not legal advice, and where a decision matters they say so and point you to your institution’s counsel.
What the site does with your information
Nothing you type into a generator leaves your browser. No patient identifiers are asked for, and the only thing remembered between visits is your own signature block, stored on your device. Page views are counted without cookies. The email list is hosted by Buttondown and the address goes there directly. The privacy page has the details.
