Organizational support
Help with planning: a checked planner, chunked long assignments with interim due dates, or a weekly binder check.
When it helps
Executive function difficulty that shows up as missing work rather than inability to do the work.
How it is usually written
Long-term assignments will be broken into steps with interim due dates, and the student's planner will be reviewed weekly by a designated staff member.
Making it work
The weekly check is the part that works; the planner alone does nothing. Name who does the check and when, and ask for interim due dates on anything longer than a week. The goal is that missing work is caught within days, before it becomes a grade the student cannot recover from.
Asking for it
A clinician’s letter that names the diagnosis, states the functional problem at school, and asks for this accommodation by name is what gets it written into a plan. The 504 and IEP support letter below builds that letter from structured choices and includes this accommodation with the wording above.
Hear when this changes
A short note when a school letter generator or a glossary entry is added. No more than a few a year.
