School letters / Accommodations
Flexible deadlines and no late penalties during treatment
An agreed window for late work without grade penalties, usually for a defined period.
When it helps
Active treatment, medication starts and changes, or re-entry. Best with an end date and a review.
How it is usually written
For the period ending [date], assignments submitted within 5 school days of the due date will be accepted without penalty.
Making it work
Set the window and the end date, and ask that it apply across subjects so the student is not negotiating with each teacher. This is a temporary accommodation by design; the review date is where it either ends or converts into something more specific. It pairs naturally with a reduced load during a medication start or a return from treatment.
Asking for it
A clinician’s letter that names the diagnosis, states the functional problem at school, and asks for this accommodation by name is what gets it written into a plan. The 504 and IEP support letter below builds that letter from structured choices and includes this accommodation with the wording above. For a student coming back after a hospitalization or a leave, the return-to-school letter sets it out as part of a re-entry plan.
Hear when this changes
A short note when a school letter generator or a glossary entry is added. No more than a few a year.
